How to make the most of your makeup this summer - which products to go for and where to apply them...
As the temperatures rise, so too does our appetite for fresh, sheer makeup looks, using products on our 'high points' to highlight exactly where the sun would naturally 'kiss' our skin. We're all about light as air, dewy formulations that leave skin looking radiant, but not shiny or sweaty. Here's our VMM lowdown on how to make the most of your summer makeup:
DAILY SPF - choose a lightweight liquid formulation, and even better, go for a tinted version to even out your skin tone and act as a base if you don't want to apply a separate foundation over the top (layering products in the heat can become a messy business!). There are some great, new tinted SPF products on the market and our current favourites are Ultra Violette SPF50 Daydream Screen Tinted Veil and Bondi Sands SPF50 Tinted Face Lotion. Or try Supergoop Glow Screen, for less of a tint, and more of a pearlised, luminous finish, that makes skin look its glowy best.
SUNNY DAY BASE - if you'd rather stick to a regular 'base' on top of your SPF, then a skin tint get our vote. Traditional foundations can feel too heavy in the heat, and whilst tints don't give full coverage, they will certainly brighten and even out your skin tone. They're also a low-maintenance option as they can be applied and blended quickly and easily without the need for any makeup tools, and they're just pigmented enough to make the skin look flawless and glowing, yet totally natural. BRONZED & BEAUTIFUL - ditch your powder bronzers this summer, and instead go for a cream version. A stick formulation is a great bet, allowing you to easily and precisely apply a golden warmth to exactly where your face needs it. You're thinking of your 'high points'...where the sun would naturally hit your skin. So along the cheekbones, down the nose and around the temples and hairline. BLUSHING BEAUTY - blushers are 'big news' this summer (and always, here at VMM!) with the latest trends showing them swept liberally across cheeks, temples and the bridge of the nose. You can be as subtle or full-on as you like with your blusher, but keep things fresh, sheer and glowy by using a cream or liquid formulation. We love the natural finish of a liquid blush, that can be applied sparingly to the apples of the cheeks and blended along the cheekbone for a radiant finish.
