Revive Your Curls - Haircare Part Two

The two of us first bonded, back in 2009, over a conversation about curly hair and the best products to revive curls, get rid of frizz and not leave hair crispy or crunchy. And 13 years on, we still regularly discuss this! So this month we’re back, bringing you some of our haircare tips on how best to revive, de-frizz and rehydrate your curls. And we can honestly say that between us we’ve tried a lot of haircare products in our time…

Let's face it, curly hair is inconsistent! You can’t quite rely on your curls looking the same each time you wash them, or even on the day after you’ve washed them. There’s always that daily surprise of what on earth will you wake up to in the morning…flattened, crushed or misshapen curls, with the addition of a little frizz?! Who knows!

Not that we're complaining - it’s just the reality of life with curls and if like us, you choose to wear your hair curly, then you need to have some go-to products that are guaranteed to work for your hair. Depending on the length, thickness, tightness of curl etc some products are just too heavy, whilst others are too light and ineffective. And then there’s the question of texture - we both hate sticky, gooey products but that’s just a preference thing…

We love our curls but it’s safe to say they need a little work each and every day, so that’s the theme of our second hair post - reviving your curls between washes. And with so much choice on the market we’re here to give you some tried and tested product suggestions that have worked for us.

Eliminating frizz is our number one priority, with both of us suffering from frizzy-hair halos in the morning. Dealing with frizz can be hard, but with the huge array of gels, sprays and creams below you might just find your hero haircare product.

JVN Hair Complete Air Dry Cream - £10.00 - M is slightly obsessed with Jonathan Van Ness, so thank goodness his hair care range is as fabulous as his personality!!! A lovely cream, packaged in a recyclable aluminium tube, this winning product provides gentle hold, while smoothing and defining curly hair. We love that it doesn’t go crunchy or flakey. Ideal for hair with body, this styling cream works to revive bouncy, touchable, soft curls.

Boots Curl Crème - £1.99 - A product for £1.99 (currently on offer)!! This is a hero hair cream and it’s one of V’s go-to styling products and probably the one she’d grab for a ‘between wash revamp’. Although she’s not a huge fan of using products in between, it’s a good one for twisting or scrunching into the end of your hair to tidy up and smooth/bond back together those pesky split ends.

It’s a 10 Coily Miracle Leave-in Product - £23.00 - A ‘taming’ spray that smoothes your curls back together, whilst diminishing frizz. It’s lightweight and has a pleasant smell and gives hair body with a little ‘va va voom’, if that’s what you’re looking for. M is a fan of this spray for its reviving abilities snd she often uses it before an evening out. And if you prefer a cream don’t despair, Because this haircare brand got that memo and crafted a cream version too - It’s a 10 Coily Miracle Curl Cream £23.00

Aveda Damage Remedy (daily hair repair)- £28.80 - A lightweight nourishing, conditioning and smoothing hair serum that’s great for between washes to bond curls back together. Our tip is to use sparingly, so your hair looks healthy, not greasy.

John Frieda Frizz Ease Secret Weapon Touch-Up-Cream £6.99

The clue is in the name and a secret weapon it is indeed and a must have for any curly haired girly!!! The price point is great, along with the light weight texture that binds curls back together without crunch or stickiness of any kind

Ouai Curl Crème - £28.00 - this concentrated conditioning product is infused with linseed and chia seed to shape, define and maintain your curls. Another one to use sparingly to create shiny hair.

Moroccanoil Curl Re-Energising Spray £17.85 - A spray to tame and define on day two/three after washing, this wonder product is not only weightless but non-sticky too, so you can use at your will whilst nourishing your curls with argon oil. A real winner of a spray from a brand that is focused on healing and conditioning hair.

Our rule of thumb when it comes to midweek curl control, is to break the rules and use what works… And this is what we have found to be a game-changer when it comes to choosing the right product. Go for leave in products, because they won’t cause matting, or crunching and they’ll be full of conditioning, nourishing ingredients that your hair will love.

So simply wet your hands and scrunch into hair, gently working your fingers through the front of your hair from the roots. Then take some product and work that into hair by scrunching and bonding or even wrapping curls round your fingers for more of a ringlet finish.

And finally here’s some footage for you to watch - A quick hair hack video demo, using one of the products - (press image below to watch).

And on that note thanks for your time and support, we love writing about beauty products that work and hope that you find one or one of our suggestions useful!!

Best Beauty Wishes
